Weirdly Wonderful: Desserts

Hello Candies! On Saturday, I tried rolled ice cream for the first time! For those of you all like, "Huh?" watch the video below to be enlightened.

After I got over the brain freeze and was finally able to think again, I decided to write a blog post about it because, duh. Better yet, why not make it its own series? So I did!

1) Bubble Tea; it's not rare or weird, but it's DELICIOUS!

2) Chakka Varati (Jackfruit Jam); Super time-consuming to make, but SUPER WORTH IT! This dessert originates from my home state in India, Kerala.

3) Fried Ice Cream; As they say in the South, everything's better fried. I seriously want to try this out but never have.

4) Red Bean Cake;  Red beans are used in many Asian desserts and they are so creamy and sweet. Love them.

5) Nitrogen Ice Cream; From the Phillipenes, this frozen ice cream is unique and comes in a variety of flavors.

Thanks for reading this post, and see you next week. Hope I made you hungry!

Reasons Why I Became a Vegetarian

I went vegetarian last summer and everyone in my family asks me why. Let's set it straight; here's why.

  • I wanted to save little animal's lives. And for people who counter this with "well you're killing plants," I can't argue. But I need to eat something, so this is the best I can do.
  • Being vegetarian is actually cheaper, and some studies show that it is healthier too!
  • It is better for the planet to be vegetarian because you contribute less to global warming and deforestation. ASAPScience has a great video on that right here:

It was hard at first to be vegetarian, but it was much easier with a buddy (my dad). It also helps to eat at a place with phenomenal veggie options; we were at a resort. Finally, do not attempt being vegetarian without knowing how much it really takes. Starting and not being able to follow through could be discouraging. Oh yeah. Get your protein. And check food labels. And all the cliche advice.

      Ciao, Candies

Summer sometimes sucks.
Here's why.

     Dear school district,
Where we live, students get 83 days of summer vacation. This long period can be broken up into 3 main stages.

Aaaaaahhhhh. School is finally out, and the first stage begins. My friends and I meet up a lot, the ones I can't meet in person stay in touch with this magical thing called the Internet, and I have big plans about what my vacation will look like. I put away my backpack with relief, not to take it out again for 2 and a half months. Lazy weeks pass, and I am (guiltily) doing nothing productive with my time.

Of course, as I am preoccupied being a couch spud, the work piles up. Initiate phase two, a.k.a chores. Clean the desk, clean the closet, clean the whole dang room. And then, of course, the studying. Math, science, and computer programming (because of my Indian techie dad, duh) all greet me in the morning. Do I do it all? Eh. Eventually, however, a girl gets bored.

*game show voice* Please welcome............stage THREE! Utter boredom, bordering on sadness. Those of you who don't have summer vacations that are almost three months long may not experience this, and lucky you, because I hate it. My advice to you all who also struggle with this is to always do something with your precious time. Blog, or draw, or whatever, as long as it makes you feel the satisfaction of a job well done. And my advice to the school district; make summer only two months long and spread the rest out over the school year in short breaks. It's been proven to help retention!

Another piece of advice I have is to follow my blog!

Yours truly!

P.S. Thank you guys for 25 followers! Half of half of a hundred; yay!
P.P.S. This is my 50th post! Half of a hundred. Double yay!
